What Interior Painting Costs in Phoenix

Ceilings, trim, sheen changes and how dark you're going all move the number more than square footage does. Here's how interior pricing actually breaks down.

Interior pricing confuses people because the same room can be quoted three quite different ways depending on what is included. Walls only is not the same job as walls, ceiling and trim, and nobody says which they meant.

Here are the published market ranges, and then the part that actually matters, which is what is inside them.

What the Phoenix market publishes

Again, these are not our prices. They are ranges published for the Phoenix market in 2026, useful for sanity-checking a quote rather than for planning a budget.

  • Roughly $2 to $5 per square foot for interior work.
  • A single room commonly averaging around $1,100, with a wide band either side depending on ceiling height, trim and prep.
  • A full interior on a typical Valley home landing somewhere in the region of $4,500 to $8,000.

What moves a room up its range

  1. Ceilings. Painting the ceiling is a separate surface with separate prep, and vaulted or two-storey spaces change the access and therefore the labour.
  2. Trim, doors and baseboards. Cutting in clean lines on trim is slow work, and it is often the largest hidden difference between two quotes for the same room.
  3. Repair scope. Patching, and matching knockdown or orange peel texture so the repair disappears. An unmatched patch stays visible under any topcoat.
  4. Colour change severity. Going from dark to light, or light to a saturated colour, frequently means an extra coat, and sometimes primer as well.
  5. Sheen changes and de-glossing. Moving from a glossier finish down to a flatter one requires the existing surface to be prepared, not just recoated.

Where interior differs from exterior in the Valley

Interior work is free of the two constraints that dominate exterior scheduling here. There is no surface-temperature ceiling and no monsoon risk, which means a Phoenix summer is a genuinely good time to paint inside the house.

It is also why we often suggest splitting a whole-property project: interiors through the hot months, exterior in the October window or the following spring.

What should be itemised

  • Which surfaces are included in each room: walls, ceiling, trim, doors, closets, and whether closet interiors are in or out.
  • Preparation listed separately from the coating.
  • Number of coats, stated rather than implied.
  • Texture matching where repairs are involved.
  • Protection: what gets moved, what gets covered, and what you are expected to do before the crew arrives.

Getting your number

A walkthrough is free and produces a written estimate itemised room by room, so you can see what each space costs and decide what to include. If the budget only stretches to part of the house, we would rather help you choose which part than quietly thin the preparation across all of it.
