FAQ
Painting Questions, Answered
The questions people actually ask before letting a contractor into their house or business. If something isn’t covered, ask on the walkthrough. We’d rather over-explain than surprise you.
Do you provide free painting estimates?
Yes. The walkthrough and the written estimate are free, and the number on the estimate is the number you pay unless the scope changes.
We don't quote over the phone. A price given without seeing the surfaces is a price that moves later.
Are you licensed and insured in Arizona?
Yes. Licensed, bonded and insured in Arizona under AZ ROC #364076.
We provide the certificate of insurance with your estimate, and we can send it directly to your HOA or property management company if they need it on file.
Do you handle both residential and commercial projects?
Yes. Residential interiors and exteriors, cabinetry and fine finishes on one side; storefronts, offices, restaurants, multi-unit buildings and tenant improvements on the other.
Commercial work is scheduled around your operating hours, including nights and weekends.
What preparation is included?
Protection first: furniture moved and wrapped, floors covered, fixtures masked or removed, landscaping and hardscape protected on exteriors.
Then surface work: washing, sanding and de-glossing, patching and texture matching, caulking joints and penetrations, and priming where the substrate, the repairs or the colour change require it.
Preparation is itemised in your estimate, separate from the coating, so you can see exactly what it includes.
Do you help with paint colours and finishes?
Yes. We'll walk through where flat, eggshell, satin and semi-gloss belong, how a colour will read against your flooring and the light the room gets, and where a sample is worth doing before you commit.
For specialty finishes and saturated or dark colours we recommend a sample board or a test area as standard.
How long does a typical project take?
A single interior room is usually a day. A full interior typically runs three to five days. Cabinet refinishing usually runs four to seven days, driven by cure time between coats rather than labour hours.
Exteriors depend on the size of the property and how much repair the stucco or block needs. Your written estimate includes the expected schedule.
Do we need to leave the house during interior painting?
Almost never. We work in occupied homes constantly. The work area is sectioned off and protected, and your kitchen and at least one bathroom stay usable.
For cabinet refinishing we can spray doors and drawer fronts off the property, so you keep the kitchen through most of the project.
What paint products do you use?
We specify the product for the substrate and its exposure rather than using one line for everything. An interior ceiling, a sun-loaded west stucco elevation, a cabinet door and a wrought iron gate all need different systems.
The specified system and the number of coats are written into your estimate. If you already have a brand or a colour you want used, we'll use it.
How do you protect floors, furniture, landscaping and fixtures?
Inside: furniture moved to the centre of the room and wrapped, floors papered or covered wall to wall, switch plates and hardware removed, vents and fixtures masked, doorways sealed against dust.
Outside: plants, pavers, pool decking, windows, lighting and fixtures covered, with overspray controlled by shielding and screening around the active work zone.
Which Arizona areas do you serve?
All of them. We are based in Phoenix, and the Valley is our daily service area: Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Goodyear, Avondale, Litchfield Park, Buckeye, Queen Creek, Apache Junction, Fountain Hills, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, Anthem and Sun City, out through Tonopah, Rainbow Valley, Wittmann, Waddell, Tolleson, El Mirage, San Tan Valley, Maricopa and Casa Grande.
Beyond the metro we take work statewide, including Tucson, Prescott, Flagstaff, Sedona, Payson, Yuma and Lake Havasu City. Travel affects scheduling on those, not whether we come, so ask early rather than assuming the answer is no.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
Warranty terms are confirmed in writing with your estimate. Ask us directly at the walkthrough and we'll tell you exactly what is covered for your scope. Call 480-797-0842.
We don't publish a headline warranty figure on this site, because the honest answer depends on the substrate, the coating system and the exposure.
Can you work around our business operating hours?
Yes. Nights, early mornings, weekends and phased zone-by-zone work are all normal for our commercial scopes.
Tell us the hours you cannot be disrupted and we will build the schedule around them.
Can you match an existing colour or wall texture?
Yes. We colour-match from a chip, a door or a section of existing wall.
On drywall repairs we match knockdown, orange peel and hand-troweled textures so patches disappear under the topcoat instead of showing as flat spots.
Do you supply the paint, or do I?
Either. Most clients have us supply it so the material is specified for the surface and its exposure and the whole scope sits with one company.
If you already have a brand or colour you want used, we'll use it.
How much does it cost to paint a house in Phoenix?
The Phoenix market generally runs somewhere around $2 to $4 per square foot on exteriors and $2 to $5 on interiors, which puts a typical Valley exterior in the region of $4,500 to $9,000. Those are published market ranges, not our quote for your house.
The reason we won't price your house from a web page is that repair scope, not square footage, is the largest variable. Two identical homes on one street can be thousands apart once you have actually looked at the stucco.
Our walkthrough is free and produces a written estimate with preparation itemised separately from the coating, so you can see what the house needs versus what the colour costs.
Do I need HOA approval to repaint my house the same colour?
Almost always yes. Most Arizona associations require a written architectural submission before any exterior repaint, including one that puts back the identical colour. Painting first and asking afterwards is how homeowners end up repainting at their own cost.
Review periods commonly run two to four weeks and some committees only sit monthly, which matters here because Arizona's good exterior painting window is short. If you want to paint in April, submit in February.
We send our licence details and certificate of insurance directly to your HOA or management company when they need them on file, and we work to the approved scheme.
Is it too hot to paint outside in an Arizona summer?
Not automatically, but air temperature is the wrong number to watch. Coatings have a stated application range, and what governs the work is the temperature of the wall itself, which in direct Valley sun runs far hotter than the air around it.
Summer exterior work succeeds on scheduling rather than product: early starts, following the shade around the building, and stopping well before the afternoon peak. A crew spraying a west wall at 2pm in July is telling you something about how they work.
The bigger constraint is the monsoon, roughly July into September, when storms, driven dust and humidity can undo a day's work on a wall that hasn't finished curing. March to May and October to November are the reliable windows.
Should I use elastomeric or acrylic paint on my stucco?
It depends on the wall, not on which product is better. Elastomeric is a high-build, crack-bridging, water-resistant coating that suits first-time sealing, persistent fine cracking, and elevations taking driven monsoon rain.
Premium acrylic is more breathable, holds colour better long term, and covers substantially more wall per gallon. On stucco that is already sealed and in sound condition, which describes a lot of Valley homes, it is frequently the better repaint.
The one thing we won't do is put an elastomeric system over a wall with an unresolved moisture problem. Stucco is meant to breathe, and sealing moisture in causes blistering and rot that costs far more than the repaint would have.
Does a painter need a licence in Arizona, and how do I check one?
Yes, for essentially any real job. Arizona requires a Registrar of Contractors licence once the total project cost including labour and materials exceeds $1,000, or where a permit is required. Painting classifications are R-34 residential, C-34 commercial and CR-34 for both.
To check: ask for the number in writing, search it on the ROC's public licence search, confirm the name matches the business you are contracting with, and confirm the classification covers residential work if that is what you are having done.
It matters because of recourse. Arizona's Residential Contractors' Recovery Fund is generally not available to homeowners who hired an unlicensed contractor, so the discount on an unlicensed quote is really you absorbing that risk.
Why is the paint peeling off my stucco?
Peeling almost always traces back to the previous paint job rather than to the current weather. Either the surface wasn't ready when the coating went on, meaning it went over dust, chalk or a damp wall, or the wrong material was specified for that substrate.
Bubbling in patches and white powdery deposits point at moisture in the wall assembly instead, and that has to be traced and resolved before anything is coated. Sealing a wet wall traps the problem rather than fixing it.
Either way, painting over it repeats the mistake. A proper fix removes the failed coating, washes and dries the wall, routes and fills cracks, texture-matches the repairs, replaces sealant at every penetration, and primes before the finish goes on.
Can you paint during monsoon season?
Interiors, yes, with no weather constraint at all, which is why a summer booking is often better spent inside the house.
Exteriors are a judgement call. Coatings need dry conditions to cure, and roughly July through September the Valley delivers sudden storms, driven rain and dust that can spoil a wall which hasn't finished curing. Dust is the underrated half of it.
We will tell you honestly if a late-summer exterior booking carries real weather risk and the calendar has better weeks in it. October, once monsoon activity fades, is one of the two best windows in the Arizona year.
