Accent Wall with Applied Box Moulding
Applied box moulding laid out and finished in a deep green, against crisp white baseboard.
The challenge
A large flat wall with nothing to hold the eye. The brief was to give the room architecture rather than just colour.
Applied moulding is a layout problem before it is a paint problem. Uneven spacing or a mis-set reveal reads immediately from across the room.
Scope of work
- Box moulding layout and installation
- Deep green finish across wall and moulding
- Baseboard finished in crisp white for contrast
- Filling, caulking and sanding to a seamless finish
Surface preparation
- Layout set out on the wall and checked against the room's sightlines and existing openings before anything was fixed.
- Moulding fixed, nail holes filled, mitres and wall joints caulked so the frames read as part of the wall rather than as applied trim.
- Sanded flush, then primed so the deep colour would lay evenly over both drywall and moulding.
Coating and finish system
- Deep green applied across wall and moulding in the same sheen so the panels read as one surface with relief.
- Baseboard finished in a crisp white to give the wall a defined base line.
Scheduling considerations
Run as a single-room project inside an occupied home, with the work zone contained and cleaned down daily.
The result
A wall with real depth and shadow lines, with no visible fixings or caulk lines under the finish.
The white baseboard keeps the deep colour from feeling heavy at floor level.
